Also explains that updating product reviews affects Discover's visibility Google also explains that updating product reviews affects Discover's visibility (like extended core updates). This re-emphasizes the point I made earlier about Google rating sites or sections more broadly. It's not uncommon for sites affected by general core updates to see a lot of fluctuations in Discover, which is now similar to product review updates. Barry introduced 2 points today that are important for website owners to understand. 1) Product review updates are updated periodically (may not be published). So keep trying to improve yourself...it's not real time. 2) Discover's visibility may be affected by updates. I have an amazing example.
A site I helped recover from last year's big kernel update. This is a news editor that jumped out of the December general update. It's great to see that, but they still don't show up in Discovery at all. The discovery report didn't even show up in GSC! Well, the site is finally starting to appear in Discover as the product reviews are updated. It's amazing to see it. Growth starts at only 4/8. Strange that the site doesn't pay attention to comments at all. :) But on top of that, I've been contacted by many site owners and have seen volatility since Discover started rolling out the update on April 8th. According to Google's explanation of the update affecting Discover, this makes perfect sense Now that I've covered the key points of the update,
I'll cover my findings by analyzing the many different sites that have been affected since the update started. These sites cover many different sub-categories, including consumer products, healthcare, technology and software, professional services, education, finance, food and recipe sites, and more. Like I said before, part of the impact is like a base update with significant visibility changes since 8/4/21. Below, I'll present some key findings based on what I've seen on both negatively and positively impacted sites. I looked at what went down or up, SERPs before and after updates, compared the link profiles of competing sites in each space, and more. I obviously can't analyze every situation, every site, and every piece of content, but I've searched many sites in multiple categories.
